The film is about Tilda Swinton as Alithea Bonny, a rational scholar who purchases a souvenir at the Istanbul market while on a trip to Istanbul. Unfortunately, when she returns to her hotel, she discovers her souvenir is a djinn. Alithea rejects the offer of the djinn to grant her three wishes. However, Alithea is opposed to the many stories that caution against taking advantage of his offers.
The film centers around their conversations and exchanges as Alithea decides how she wants to use her wishes. They are taken by surprise when she realizes what she wants for them.
