One of the most common questions I get asked in the world of interior design is: “What do I put on my walls?” I’m a huge believer that walls and decor are pretty much the same thing. They’re all about the same thing. Walls are about the same as windows, but they are bigger and are built to protect, not obstruct. And if that means they’re always closed, then so be it.
I can’t really think of anything else that makes walls so darn important, but that’s what they are. If you want to have your walls look nice, you have to have them look nice. And you do.
The reason I was initially skeptical was that I was hoping for a more subtle way to get a bit of inspiration from my favorite author. After my first couple weeks with him, I realized that I had to start by putting on a little style. I like to add a little bit of color to my walls to make them stand out, but that’s really not what I’m after.
In other words, I’m not looking for inspiration. I want to get a little more creative with the wall treatments I put up for my room. And I don’t mean the type of wallpaper that a lot of people prefer, I mean those kinds of things that I just love and think make my room look good. It’s more about the little touches.
This is important because the first thing that happens when you go to buy a new piece of furniture is that you’re going to fill it with things not of your taste. This is all because you’ve been too busy looking at some furniture, that you’ve never been able to get a good grasp of what you really like or dislike about it.
Like your bed, your desk, your bookcase, and your dresser, if youve got a big room and most of it is filled with things you dont really enjoy, it gets harder and harder to find the things you do like in your new furniture.
In my own first apartment, I needed to get rid of a few things that got in the way, but I wasnt thinking about it all at once like I was with my new apartment. I was like, I dont think I need a big dresser and a bookcase. Maybe something a bit smaller but functional. It doesnt take a genius to figure out what you want in your bedroom. And I have a hard time finding a dresser that is actually functional.
I’ve been using the same dresser for 4 years, and the only thing that has been useful is a small table in the corner of the room, and in the past it was a bit of a pain to get it out of my way. It has a drawer for magazines, a drawer for books, and a shelf it is attached to, and it has a very small closet.
The drawer is just the first place where I would look to get rid of stuff. I wouldn’t go for the dresser because the drawer gets in the way of what I want to do. I also wouldn’t go for the closet. It is the first place I have the feeling I have to go to get something out of it. And of course, it would have to be a closet that is a bit more functional.
